The first year has come and gone and time certainly has not slowed down for us. Better not blink. Madison went from one year to over 14 months over night.I started this post after her first birthday and now it's March. I cried for about 2 weeks surrounding her first birthday that it all went so fast and that I had missed out on so much. Thanks to a gentle reminder from my friend Laura today, I decided to take a moment to celebrate my sweet baby girl again today.
We had a very laid back, small first birthday party. We hung out and had the guests decorate cupcakes. Madison loves people and loves to watch things happen around her. She had a blast. She hated cake. I do mean hate. We tried to give her some on three different occasions and she cried. She wanted nothing to do with it. Even now, she is not a fan of anything sugary. She'll take spicy, but not sweet. She eats unlike anything I have ever seen. She's hungry all the time and at this moment she is all about feeding herself. She doesn't want any help. If we try to help her with her spoon, he'll turn her head and say "no." If you put that spoon on her plate she'll gladly pick it up and eat. Well I say eat, but I use that term loosely, but she's figured out the process. She likes the "scooping" part.
She has many big accomplishments at 14 months but here are my favorites to watch. She claps on command and loves it. She squeals with delight. She knows her head and tummy and loves to have her feet tickled. She'll just come over and bring you her right foot and that is your cue that she'd like to have tickle time. She LOVES the tub and spends at least 30 minutes there every night. She gets a big kick splashing big splashes,dumping out the water, and watching the water drain. She brushes her teeth now and is very proud of that. She is working on throwing a ball, but that also means that she throws her peas at dinner! She knows the words mamma, daddy, outside, she calls the dog "good girl," which of course is more like goo guul. She says NO, but it's really precious when she goes, "no, no, no." She loves to be outside and swinging. She stomped in puddles for the first time this weekend - on accident and then on purpose. Today at school she called her best friend Knox by name went and got her own coat out of her cubby, her water cup from the fridge, and then showed me the way out. Oh yes, she opens doors.... That's a whole different story! Everyday is a day to celebrate because so much happens in just a day! Thanks for the reminder Laura, to get me to stop and smile at all of this today
Madison continues to be a complete joy and brings so much sunshine to so many people's life on a daily basis. We are so incredibly blessed. I've promised myself that I will slow down and make sure that year two doesn't pass by quite as fast. How can anyone ever pick a favorite age or stage? I have loved them all. And we have a long way to go... What an adventure!!
